Frequently asked questions.
If a team wins by 7 points and they were + 3 would the difference be 10 points.
Answer: that is correct, you would add the total points with the team team getting
3 points which was 7 in this case and compare the 10 points to the adjustment chart which would show a 2 point adjustment
added to that team's power rating. The favorite in that particular game would be -10 and get a 2 point deduction in their
power rating the following week.
Why are my power ratings slightly different
than the websites power ratings?
Point spreads can vary from region to region,
even sportsbook to sportsbook. One thing to check is the homefield advantage (2.5). Sometimes people forget to remove it when
a team goes on the road, or forget to add it when the team comes back home.
My
team was -3.5, but won by 21 points. Why is there only a 3 point adjustment on the chart and not 4 or 5.
Answer: Three points was determined to keep from over rating a team off a big win and
under rating a team off a bad loss.
Can you explain how you get the number
to adjust each team each week?
Answer: I use the opening
line and subtract it from the difference in the final score. If the favorite wins and covers the spread then you would subtract
the pointspread from the difference in the final score. (point spread-difference in final score) Then compare that figure
to the adjustment chart to add or subtract to the power rating.
How do you
determine what game to play?
Answer: I look for at least
a 4 point difference in power ratings. I also take into consideration, revenge, any emotional factors, and situational factors,
such as 3rd consecutive game on the road, or a team coming off an emotional victory on Monday night.
